Home Performance Diagnostics

Energy Audit.

Put simply, an energy audit is a comprehensive evaluation of your home’s overall performance. A BPI certified Building Analyst will use industry standard diagnostic equipment to evaluate all of the performance systems within your home. We will evaluate insulation, windows, HVAC and other mechanical systems, air leakage, lighting and appliances. With all of the information collected, the Building Analyst will compile a comprehensive report detailing your home’s current energy performance and highlighting areas that may have room for improvement. In the end, you will gain a better understanding of your home as a system, as well as how your home performs and what you can do to be healthier and more comfortable in it.

Blowerdoor Test

A blowerdoor is the greatest tool for any home performance professional. The main purpose of a blowerdoor is to use depressurization in order to force air into the home and then measure and identify air leakage. This is essential to not only controlling air leakage, but also determining if the home requires additional mechanical ventilation. While the home is depressurized, we can also use our gauges to identify specific problems areas through a process called “zone pressure diagnostics.” A trained analyst can use the blowerdoor system to paint a very clear picture of a home’s performance. This takes the guess work out of home performance improvements.

Thermal Imaging.

Another great tool for identifying potential issues is a thermal imaging camera. A thermal camera can identify areas where insulation may be missing or damaged. When used in conjunction with a blowerdoor, we can also identify specific sources of air leakage. Additionally, thermal cameras can also help identify leaks in duct work, as well as water damage. Often, home performance issues are in areas that cannot be seen or easily accessed. A thermal imaging camera can help a building analyst to get a look at potential problem areas.
